2015 Summer Classes in Larimer County

science tutoring subjects

Leading Learners is offering summer classes at affordable prices! Many students work hard during the school year but lose some of their motivation to continue practicing important study skills during the summer. Often students feel like they forget information over the break, and they have to re-memorize again it the next school year, which can be frustrating and seem like a waste of time. We encourage our students to practice reading, writing, and solving math problems while enjoying the summer months, challenging themselves to to prepare for the fall. These basic skills are crucial for academic success and more importantly, becoming active members of our community.

Below is a list of classes our professional academic coaches and tutors are offering Larimer County students. All classes are located in Fort Collins. Please contact Maria to register or for more information at [email protected] or 970-226-8704.

Algebra 1

Coach: Sarah Galusky

Cost: $30/class (students must commit to 6 of 8 classes)

Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:30am-11am, June 9, 2015 – July 2nd, 2015 (registration closes June 2nd, 2015)

Course Description: Learning algebra is a great opportunity to practice reasonable thinking and learning how to solve difficult problems one step at a time. Knowing how to solve algebraic equations is crucial when studying algebra 2, trigonometry, calculus, and beyond. Basic algebra is also essential for difficult science studies. In this class students will learn how to solve single variable equations, fractions, decimals, conversions between them, and standard mathematical operations for multiple variables, quadratic equations, polynomials, and irrational numbers. With a small class of students, the coach will be able to identify which basic math skills each student needs more practice with in order to be comfortable with algebra.

*Sarah is currently studying at Colorado State University, working toward her Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree in Economics and Statistics. Sarah enjoys working with students and especially studying mathematics and Spanish with youth.

Introduction to Algebra 2

Coach: Sarah Galusky

Cost: $30/class (students must commit to 6 of 8 classes)

Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays 9:30am – 11am June 8th, 2015 – July 1st, 2015 (registration closes June 1st, 2015)

Location: 418 S Howes Street in the Cohere Office building, behind Claypot Creative. Parking on Howes and Magnolia.

Course Description: Many students find the transition from algebra and geometry to algebra II to be very challenging; in fact, we have more students request academic coaching for algebra II than for any other secondary subject. Keep your math skills strong over the summer and get a head start on algebra II in this informative course in a small group setting (4:1 student to academic coach ratio).

In algebra you learned about rational numbers, order of operations, and algebraic expressions. In this course, you will extend your knowledge to include linear systems, quadratic equations, and polynomials. These topics are all taught during the first semester of algebra II; by participating in this course you will begin next year with extensive background knowledge and study resources that will put you ahead of the class. The atmosphere for this course is academic but relaxed. Keeping our group small allows our students to get the attention they need while creating an environment that encourages mathematical questioning and discussion.

*Sarah is currently studying at Colorado State University, working toward her Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree in Economics and Statistics. Sarah enjoys working with students and especially studying mathematics and Spanish with youth.

Course Description: This is a 5 week course (twice a week) designed to strengthen students’ test taking skills by identifying challenging areas, familiarizing them with different methods of studying, and increasing their confidence. Watch your scores go up every week! We will help students achieve higher potential ACT scores as well as foster over-all abilities in high school test taking and study skills. The course will focus on how the topics of the standardized test highlight the general abilities of each student. The math, science, English, and reading skills of each student will be reviewed, supported and expanded upon.

This course includes and builds on a hefty portion of test taking tips and reminders that apply to all sections. Each student works towards personal goals and will get focused help in their area of difficulty. We maintain a very high teacher-student ratio and we have all students take a full test on the first and last day of the course.
