2015 Summer Classes in Boulder County

student learning study skills

Leading Learners is offering summer classes at affordable prices! Many students work hard during the school year but often lose some of their motivation to continue practicing important study skills during the summer. Often students feel like they lose information over the break and they have to re-memorize it the next school year, which can be frustrating and feel like a waste of time. We encourage our students to practice reading, writing, and solving math problems while enjoying the summer months, challenging themselves to to prepare for the fall. These basic skills are crucial for academic success and more importantly, becoming active members of our community.

Below is a list of classes our professional academic coaches and tutors are offering Boulder students. We are also hiring youth to work with our younger students and have summer internships! Email Gala for more information at [email protected].

Algebra 1 – registration closes July 7th, 2015
Coach: Gala Orba
Cost: $30 per session (students must commit to at least 6 out 8 sessions)
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:30am -11am July 21st – August 13th 2015
Location: 1877 Broadway (Ste100)- Boulder, CO 80302

Course Description: Learning algebra is a great opportunity to practice reasonable thinking and understanding how to solve difficult problems one step at a time. Knowing how to solve algebraic equations is crucial when studying algebra 2, trigonometry, calculus, and beyond. Basic algebra is also essential for difficult science studies. In this class, students will learn how to solve single variable equations, fractions, decimals, conversions between them and standard mathematical operations for multiple variables, quadratic equations, polynomials, and irrational numbers. With a small class of students, the coach will be able to identify which basic math skills each student needs more practice with in order to be comfortable with algebra.

Introduction to Algebra 2 -registration closes July 7th, 2015
Coach: Gala Orba
Cost: $30 per session (students must commit to at least 6 out 8 sessions)
Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 11:30am-1pm July 21st – August 13th 2015
Location: 1877 Broadway (Ste100)- Boulder, CO 80302

Course Description: Many students find the transition from algebra and geometry to algebra II to be very challenging; in fact, we have more students request academic coaching for algebra II than for any other secondary subject. Keep your math skills strong over the summer and get a head start on algebra II in this informative course in a small group setting (4:1 student to academic coach ratio).

In algebra you learned about rational numbers, order of operations, and algebraic expressions. In this course, you will extend your knowledge to include linear systems, quadratic equations, and polynomials. These topics are all taught during the first semester of algebra II in BVSD. By participating in this course you will begin next year with extensive background knowledge and study resources that will put you ahead of the class. The atmosphere for this course is academic but relaxed. Keeping our group small allows our students to get the attention they need while creating an environment that encourages mathematical questioning and discussion.
